Comet C/2021 A1 Leonard - November 28, 2021

Description
This is a reprocess (for improved color and noise removal) of Comet C/2021 A1 Leonard on November 27, 2021, showing one hour of its travel against the background star field. The original version of this photo was featured BBC Sky at Night Magazine and CNET. I combined 60 one-minute exposures (at about a 1400mm focal length) to make this photo, using an 8" reflecting telescope from my Indiana backyard. Interestingly, the comet was moving so fast that even 3 minute exposures blur the core. If you look closely, you can see a hint of the ion tail separating at the upper edge.
