Description
This is a close-up of Comet C/2023 A3 Tsuchinshan–ATLAS on October 16, 2024. At this point, the comet was very close to the Sun and had a prominent anti-tail: leftover dust along the comet's path that is less affected by the Sun's radiation pressure, leading to an orbital disk. From Earth, we view this orbital disk edge-on, so it looks like a spike.
