Description
The whimsically named PacMan Nebula (NGC 281) is an emissions nebula in the constellation Cassiopeia, visible in northern skies from late spring to early fall.
This photograph combines 18 hours of five-minute long exposures captured on an 8" reflector telescope from an Indiana backyard in August 2022.
To better bring out the beautiful details, it separates and recombines ionized hydrogen (H-alpha: shades of red) and ionized oxygen ([OIII]: shades of blue). Darker regions silhouetted against the brightly glowing gases are clouds of interstellar dust.
I hope you enjoy the beauty of this nebula. If you'd like to learn more about the technical details of how I created this photo, please visit: https://www.astrobin.com/orjcs3/
